Safety precautions
To use the machine safely
Please refer to these instructions for later reference and before attempting any maintenance.
WARNING
There are high voltage electrodes inside the machine. [. . . ] The LCD shows the number of the current message, and the total number of messages. During playback, the LCD shows the time and date the message was recorded. You can press and # repeatedly until you reach the message you want to play. Press Stop/Exit.
Printing a fax message
Once you print a new fax message stored in memory, it is erased from the memory automatically.

For FAX-2440C, press Play/Record. If the Fax Storage is on and there are fax messages in memory, the LCD shows: To print the faxes, press 1. Print Document 1. Yes 2. No --OR-- Press 2 to exit without printing.

Erasing incoming messages
You can erase voice messages individually, or all at once.

For FAX-2440C, press Play/Record. Each message is preceded by one long beep, and followed by two short beeps. 1. Yes 2. No Erase immediately after the two short beeps, or while the message is playing. Select & Set Press or to select erasing all voice messages (Voice:), all document messages (Fax), or all voice and fax messages (Erase All Msg. ?). Press Stop/Exit.

Setting Maximum Time for incoming messages
Your machine comes set to receive voice messages up to 30 seconds long. You can change this setting to 60, 120 or 180 seconds.

Press Menu/Set, 2, 7, 2. Press or to select the maximum time setting for incoming messages (30, 60, 120 or 180 seconds). Press Stop/Exit.
Setting Toll Saver
See Setting Toll Saver (TAD mode) on page 4-4.
ICM Recording Monitor
This feature lets you turn the speaker volume for voice messages On or Off. When you turn the monitor Off, you will not hear messages as they come in.

Recording a conversation (FAX-2440C only)
If you are using the handset, you can record a telephone conversation by pressing Play/Record during the conversation. To stop recording, press Stop/Exit.
Record Fax/Tel Outgoing Announcement (F/T OGM)
This is the announcement played by your Brother machine (not an external TAD) when someone calls and your machine is set to Fax/Tel receive mode. By choosing F/T Message (not TAD Message) you can record the announcement using the same steps as for the TAD outgoing message. (See Recording TAD Outgoing Message (FAX-2440C only) on page 7-2. ) You can also listen to and erase the F/T Message the same way, by choosing F/T Message (not TAD Message). (See Recording TAD Outgoing Message (MFC-620CN only) on page 7-3 and Erasing Outgoing Message (OGM) on page 7-4. ) If you need to review the steps for setting up the Fax/Tel receive mode, see Chapter 4.

Fax settings and activity
You need to set up the Transmission Verification Report and Journal Period in the menu table. --OR-- Press Menu/Set, 2, 4, 2.
Customizing the Transmission Verification Report
You can use the Transmission Report as proof that you sent a fax. This report lists the time and date of transmission and whether the transmission was successful (OK).
