[. . . ] WWVB will penetrate almost every residential building and most steel buildings if they have adequate windows. It is not possible, however, for WWVB to penetrate most indoor shopping malls and rooms in the center of large office buildings that do not have windows. In buildings that WWVB cannot penetrate you may set the time using the manual time set button. When the clock is exposed to the WWVB signal it will automatically set the hands to the exact time. [. . . ] These physicists have created an international standard, measuring a second as 9, 192, 631, 770 vibrations of a Cesium 133 atom in a vacuum. This atomic clock regulates the WWVB radio transmitter located in Fort Collins, Colorado, where the exact time signal is continuously broadcast throughout the United States at 60 kHz to take advantage of stable long wave radio paths found in that frequency range. Radio waves at these low frequencies use the earth and the ionosphere as a wave-guide and follow the curvature of the earth for long distances. The built-in antenna system will receive the WWVB signal anywhere in North America within 2000 miles of Fort Collins where long-wave radio reception is undisturbed. A microprocessor activates the receiver and processes the time signal from Fort Collins overnight. Through the radio signals, La Crosse Technology radio controlled clocks always keep precise time. The changeover from standard time to daylight savings time, and vice versa, takes place automatically with the same precision.
MANUAL TIME SET OPTION
· Press and hold the TIME SET BUTTON on the back of the movement continuously to set the manual time. Your clock is now working as a quartz clock and not searching for the WWVB signal. It is important to not release the button for more than 2 seconds during this time, or your clock will automatically return to the RADIO CONTROL MODE to begin searching for a WWVB signal again. If at any time your clock automatically advances to 4:00, 8:00, or 12:00, it has entered the RADIO CONTROLLED MODE and is searching for the WWVB signal. If you are trying to manually set your clock and have accidentally returned to the RADIO CONTROL MODE, you must remove the batteries, wait 2 minutes, and then reinstall the battery. The clock will advance to 4, 8, or 12 and allow you to use the MANUAL SET BUTTON. There are 2 ways to return to RADIO CONTROL MODE if your clock is manually set: 1. Remove the battery, reinstall it after 2 minutes, and start the clock again. The hands will move to the 4:00, 8:00, or 12:00 o'clock position and begin searching for a WWVB signal. After successful WWVB signal is established, your clock will be set automatically and will work as a radio controlled clock. If reception of WWVB signal is not possible, your clock will switch back to the QUARTZ MODE after 10 minutes and show the quartz time. This movement is now functioning as a quartz clock and will not attempt to receive the WWVB signal again, unless you remove the batteries or press the TIME SET BUTTON again as described above.
