ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD) PRECAUTIONS CAUTION
The following practices minimize possible damage to EPROMs resulting from electrostatic discharge or improper insertion. · When removing boards, handle only by non-conductive surfaces and never touch open-edge connectors except at a static-free workstation. [. . . ] To straighten the EPROM pins, place the EPROM on its side on a flat, static-free surface. Exerting gentle pressure downward, roll the EPROM as shown in Figure VI (below) to force the pins into a position parallel to the surface.

Lexicon A-13. This screw is identified with a white arrow in Figure III on the previous page. Place the decoder board and decoder board bracket included in the upgrade kit on a static-free surface. Use a Phillips-Head screwdriver and one M3x6mm screw to attach the decoder board to the decoder board bracket as shown at the left in Figure VIII on the next page. Connect the decoder board to the expansion connector labeled J25 on the main board as shown at the center in Figure VIII on the next page. Use a Phillips-Head screwdriver and one M3x6mm screw to attach the decoder board bracket to the main board option bracket as shown at the right in Figure VIII on the next page. Replace the top cover of the MC-12 by sliding it toward the front panel. Use a 2. 5mm Allen hex-head wrench to replace the twelve 2. 5mm hex screws that secure the MC-12 top cover. Exit all Windows® operating system programs before installing the new software. Insert the Software Version 3. 0 installation CD included in the upgrade kit in the computer CD drive. Use the My Computer shortcut or a preferred option to open the CD drive on the computer. The Choose Destination Location window will open on the computer monitor. button to choose a location on the hard drive in which to install the new software. Otherwise, the default location C:\Program Files\Lexicon\MC12 is automatically selected. When the desired location is selected, press the Next button to continue.
Lexicon B-7. Press the Next button to begin copying the Software Version 3. 0 files onto the computer. The Installing window will open on the computer monitor to indicate the progress of the file transfer. When this process is complete, the Installation Complete window will open on the computer monitor. The MC12V300 icon shown at the right will appear on the computer desktop. The software can also be accessed from the location selected in step B-6.

It is not necessary to restart the computer before proceeding to Step C: Upgrading the MC-12.

· A communication error occurs when user settings are downloaded to the upgraded MC-12. [. . . ] The message "Update cancelled by user" will appear on the computer monitor. The MC-12 will continue to run on the currently installed software version. Note the following as the MC-12 upgrade continues: · The message "Preparing MC-12 for download" will appear on the computer monitor. · The MC-12 will restart and the message "WAITING FOR DOWNLOAD" will appear on the MC-12 front panel display.
