Chapter 3: Recording, Playback & Features ® Parental Control Disc Options Recording Options System Options Languages Installation Default Rec Quality SmartRecord Chapter Markers This feature uses patented technology to detect and mark most commercials when recording to disc for any recording that is more than 15 minutes long. The DVD recorder determines where the commercials are located and marks the beginning and end of the detected commercial segments, using the marks to create separate chapters from the regular programming. It does not eliminate the commercials but simply skips over them during playback because the commercial "chapter" is hidden. The default setting for this feature is for Commercial Advance to be on. During playback of your recorded disc, the DVD recorder automatically skips the detected commercial segments, or you can choose to manually skip them. Because television signals do not indicate where commercials are located, this feature finds and marks them through a set of formulas based on how television is broadcast today. Since television stations broadcast differently and insert their own commercials, you may experience some variations in this feature's effectiveness. Station promotions, identifications, and announcements are not considered commercials, but might be skipped. [. . . ] Also, you need to be able to see what your copying, so the TV needs to be connected. Connect a set of audio/video cables to the DVD recorder's OUTPUT VIDEO (yellow), AUDIO L (white), and AUDIO R (red) jacks, to the VCR's Input Jacks (sometimes labeled VIDEO and AUDIO L and R). Connect an RF coaxial cable to the OUT TO TV jack on the VCR and to the IN FROM CABLE/ANTENNA jack on the TV. Make sure all of the components (TV, VCR, and DVD recorder) are plugged into working power outlets. [. . . ]
