Muting
You can mute your phone when making external calls. The microphone is deactivated so that your conversational partner can no longer hear you. The icon appears on the display when the microphone is deactivated.
IP dialling
You can use IP dialling to economically make international calls. Precondition: You own an IP dial service card and the IP code is stored in the phone book via the handset menu, page 15.
Please note Dialling using phone book ( page 15), redial list ( page 13) or calls list ( page 14) saves you from having to re-enter numbers and network provider prefixes.
Accepting a call
An incoming call is indicated by ringing and by flashing of the and the Y icon on the display. To accept an incoming call: (pick up receiver) or press d (hands-free talking) You can adjust the ringer volume ( page 19) or deactivate the ringer completely ( page 9).
In idle mode: ~ (enter IDD (International Direct Dial) number) and hold Q (pick up receiver) or press d. Your Gigaset A280 will automatically pick the line and add the IP code stored in the phone book as a prefix to the IDD phone number.

Activating while dialling: ~ enter phone number
In talk mode: (pick up receiver) press and hold Q The service provider is called. You can also use the Q key for IP dialling from phone book, calls list, or redial list and dial the IP code directly.

Switching between earpiece and hands-free mode: During a call press the hands-free key d to activate or deactivate hands-free talking.

Calls list
The calls list stores incoming calls: name, number, time stamp (max. The Y icon appears on the display when there are any entries in the calls list. Calling Line Identification (CLI) CLI is a telephone service that transmits a caller's number and possibly an associated name to the called party's telephone equipment. Precondition: 1 You network provider enables to display the caller's number (CLIP) or name (CNIP). 2 The caller has asked the network provider for his number to be identified.
Using the calls list on the base station
When you get a call, the caller's number and the 12:30 31-10 #02 time stamp will be displayed. If the caller's number is not known (no CLI) only time and date are displayed.

Using the calls list on the handset
When you get a call, the caller's number will be displayed. The caller's name will PETER be displayed if it is stored in the phone book or if CNIP (Calling Name Identification Presentation) has been requested. An incoming call without CLI is indicated as UNKNOWN.
