Ensuretheswitchis intheoff-positionbeforeconnectingtopower sourceand/orbatterypack, pickinguporcarrying thetool. Incorrectly sized accessories cannot be adequatelyguardedorcontrolled. e) Thearboursizeofwheels, flanges, backingpadsor anyotheraccessorymustproperlyfitthespindleof thepowertool. Accessories with arbour holes that do notmatchthemountinghardwareofthepowertoolwill runoutofbalance, vibrateexcessivelyandmaycause lossofcontrol.
f) Donotuseadamagedaccessory. Beforeeachuse inspecttheaccessorysuchasabrasivewheelsfor chipsandcracks, backingpadsforcracks, tearor excesswear, wirebrushesforlooseorcracked wires. Ifthepowertooloraccessoryisdropped, inspectfordamageorinstallanundamaged accessory. Afterinspectingandinstallingan accessory, positionyourselfandbystandersaway fromtheplaneoftherotatingaccessoryandrunthe powertoolatmaximumnoloadspeedforone minute. Damaged accessories will normally break apart during this test time. Depending onapplication, usefaceshield, safetygogglesor safetyglasses. Ifyoulosecontrol, thecordmaybecutorsnaggedand your hand or arm may be pulled into the spinning accessory. k) Neverlaythepowertooldownuntiltheaccessory hascometoacompletestop. The spinning accessory maygrabthesurfaceandpullthepowertooloutof your control. l) Donotrunthepowertoolwhilecarryingitatyour side. Accidental contact with the spinning accessory couldsnagyourclothing, pullingtheaccessoryinto your body. Themotor'sfanwilldrawthedustinsidethehousing andexcessiveaccumulationofpowderedmetalmay cause electrical hazards. n) Donotoperatethepowertoolnearflammable materials. Sparks could ignite these materials. 2)KICKBACKANDRELATEDWARNINGS · Kickbackisasuddenreactiontoapinchedorsnagged rotatingwheel, backingpad, brushoranyother accessory. Pinchingorsnaggingcausesrapidstallingof the rotating accessory which in turn causes the uncontrolledpowertooltobeforcedinthedirection oppositeoftheaccessory'srotationatthepointofthe binding. 7
· Forexample, ifanabrasivewheelissnaggedorpinched bytheworkpiece, theedgeofthewheelthatisentering intothepinchpointcandigintothesurfaceofthe material causing the wheel to climb out or kick out. Thewheelmayeitherjumptowardorawayfromthe operator, dependingonthedirectionofthewheel's movementatthepointofpinching. Abrasivewheels may also break under these conditions. · Kickbackistheresultofpowertoolmisuseand/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can beavoidedbytakingproperprecautionsasgiven below. a) Maintainafirmgriponthepowertoolandposition yourbodyandarmtoallowyoutoresistkickback forces. Alwaysuseauxiliaryhandle, ifprovided, for maximumcontroloverkickbackortorquereaction duringstart-up. Theoperatorcancontroltorque reactionsorkickbackforces, ifproperprecautionsare taken. c) Donotpositionyourbodyintheareawherepower toolwillmoveifkickbackoccurs. Kickback will propel the tool in the direction opposite to the wheel's movementatthepointofsnagging. d) Usespecialcarewhenworkingcorners, sharp edgesetc. Avoidbouncingandsnaggingthe accessory. Corners, sharpedgesorbouncinghavea tendency to snag the rotating accessory and cause loss ofcontrolorkickback. e) Donotattachasawchainwoodcarvingbladeor toothedsawblade. Suchbladescreatefrequent kickbackandlossofcontrol.
